Glacier National Park and Lake Coeur D'Alene - 2010

I visited Glacier National Park, Montana, over the Labor Day weekend of 2010. I flew to Spokane, Washington, rented a car and drove to Kalispell. On my way back, I stopped at Lake Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. I spent 2 days at the park.

The first day I decided to park at the visitor center and take the free park shuttle. My first stop was Logan Pass, which is on the Continental Divide, and is the highest point of the park, at 6646 feet. It started raining heavily on the way, and when I reached Logan Pass, it was snowing. It was cold and windy, and I didn't spend much time there. I returned to the Apgar Village stop and decided to have lunch. It stopped raining while I was having lunch, so after lunch I decided to take the shuttle and see some of the other view points. It started raining again while I was on the shuttle. That entire day was pretty much wasted!

The next day it wasn't raining, though it was still overcast, cold and windy. I drove the full length of the Going-to-the-Sun road. This road is narrow and winding, with a sheer drop on one side, but it has spectacular views. I stopped to take in the views at the Loop, Jackson Glacier, Bird Woman Falls, Triple Arches, Logan Pass, Wild Goose Island and Lake McDonald. At Sunrift Gorge, I took the short hike to Baring Falls. I walked up to Sun Point, to see the views of St Mary's Lake. I took the short hike to see the St Mary's Falls.

I had planned on driving along the road one day and taking a long hike the second, but because of the rain/snow, I did not have time to do any long hikes. This park has great views, but I wish the weather had been better.
