Italy - 2011

In 2011, I took a 12 day Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona to Venice. The ship made stops in Rome, Naples and Florence. The cruise ended in Venice, where the ship spent 2 days. I thought one day at Rome was not enough, so I took the train from Venice to Rome and spent a few more days in Rome.

In Rome I saw the Vatican Museum and the magnificent paintings of the Sistine Chapel. Photos are not allowed in the Sistine Chapel, so I was only able to sneak a few when no-one was looking. I saw St Peter's Basilica. The interior is just amazing. I visited the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain.

Venice is really worth a visit. The canals are very interesting, especially the Gondola rides. St Mark's square, St Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace are beautiful.

At Naples, I went to Capri and Sorrento, both of which are pretty seaside towns. After lunch, I went to see the ruins of Pompeii.

In Florence, I saw the beautiful Cathedral and Clock Tower, and the statue of Michael Angelo's 'David'. In Pisa I saw the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and the adjoining Cathedral and Baptismal Font.
