Florida and Caribbean Cruise - 2014

During the Thanksgiving week of 2014, I took a Caribbean cruise from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The cruise was on the newest ship in the Princess fleet, the Regal Princess. This is a beautiful ship. The atrium area is very nice and has a lot of little tables, and a dance floor, making it the focal point for the evening's entertainment. There is a musical lighted fountain show up on the open deck, by the pool, every night. I tried one of the new chocolate alcoholic drinks. It had all my favorite things - rum, coconut and white chocolate.

The first port was Princess Cays, a private beach on one of the islands in the Bahamas. It was a hot day. There were a lot of bars set up on the beach, and the ship served a barbecue lunch on the beach.

The next port was St Thomas, in the US Virgin Islands. I walked to Blackbeard's Castle. and then walked back along the waterfront. The taxis on this island were really cute and held a lot of people.

The last port was St Maarten, in the Dutch Antilles. Half of this island is Dutch and half is French. The guava berry colada is an island favorite. There is a beach called Airport Beach, which is really close to the airport runways. The planes that are landing, fly so low, it almost feels like you can raise your hands and touch the plane.

After returning to Fort Lauderdale, I took the Princess transfer to the airport and picked up my rental car. I drove to one of the stops of the water taxi and took the water taxi along the intra coastal water way. Along the way, I saw the many amazing multi-million dollar homes and yachts along the waterway. I got off at Las Olas Blvd and walked around for a while. In the evening, I drove to Orlando.

At Orlando, I went to Epcot Center the first day. It was quite nice. It drizzled a little in the afternoon, but everyone kept walking through the drizzle.

The next day I went to Animal Kingdom. I really liked the Jungle Safari. It was a very bumpy ride and the drivers don't really stop a lot, so it's not easy to take pictures. I took multiple trips, trying to get good pictures of the animals. There was also a really nice performance of the Lion King. The show had elaborate floats and was a mini version of the musical. It rained heavily for a short time, during which everyone had to find shelter.

The next day I drove back to Fort Lauderdale and flew home.
